Group Therapy

group.png
Groups have at least three functions:  they provide support; they provide a place to try out new behaviors and get feedback; they provide a place to explore issues deeply with the help of others who may provide new perspectives from their own experiences.

It helps to think of group therapy as a living laboratory where you can safely take risks and try out new ways of talking to others, getting your needs met, and supporting others.  You will also get practice in translating your feelings and thoughts into words.

Goals of Group

Group therapy is based on the idea that many of the difficulties that people have in their lives can be understood in relationships with others, as well as with the self.  In childhood, we learn ways of getting close and talking to others, as well as strategies for solving problems.  However, when these early ways of relating are applied to adult relationships and situations, they often don’t work as well.  The main goals of group therapy are to help you develop more effective ways of relating to yourself and to others and to help you become more authentic both with yourself and in relationships.

Process and Psychomotor Therapy Group

This group focuses on inter-personal and intra-personal relationships.  We will definitely offer support, develop skills, and focus on specific topics from time to time; however, the main focus will be on how we relate to each other and to ourselves. In addition, we will use techniques from Pesso-Boyden Psychomotor Therapy (see www.pbsp.com) and other approaches to help you through stuck places and to provide new relational learning.

Aging and Sageing

This group focuses on honoring, celebrating, and supporting women as we transition into our third act. These years require gratitude for living longer, resilience to deal with new challenges, and inspiration to enrich our lives.

Individual  Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy can empower you to become more present and aware of your inner strengths, enabling you to fully embrace and enjoy your life.

I believe the relationship between my client and me is the most important component of individual psychotherapy, regardless of presenting issues.  Accordingly, I work hard to establish an atmosphere of safety and comfort.

Couples Therapy

Would you rather be right or be happy?  The five most important words in a relationship are:  “You were right; I’m sorry.”

My goal in working with couples is to help them learn to listen deeply to each other and to develop skills to work through differences and deepen their intimacy.

Mindful Meditation

The definition of the word mindfulness is to be fully present in the moment without judgment.

This is a lot easier said than done, and to be mindful all the time is not realistic, so the idea is to create a practice.
